This month at HERMANN’S we are excited to join culinary forces with the amazing Kala Sung for an afternoon of temple food eating and ugly kimchi making!
We’ll kick things off at 12pm with some delicious brunch followed by the workshop at 2pm.
Already a kimchi master? No problem, you can also book tickets for the part brunch only.
Kala loves to cook, laugh and share her food experiences. She creates exciting and nourishing food with whatever fresh produce is laying around and always adds in just a teaspoon of her lovely craziness. An alumni of CIA with an M.A. in Food Studies from NYU and the former consultant chef at the Four Seasons Restaurant, Kala’s vibrant charming energy fills any kitchen with light and life.
Temple Food Brunch
Temple food originates from the Buddhist temples of Korea. The beauty of temple cuisine reminds us to slow down, give thanks to the food in front of us, and savour each bite. When eating all food, not just temple food, we can stop and think of the journey of how the ingredients got onto our plates, the sunshine, rain, and sweat that went into its growth, the love that was poured into its preparation, and the place and people we are so lucky to enjoy it with.
Ugly Kimchi Workshop
Kala brings a fun and modern interpretation to Kimchi making. She showcases the versatility of Kimchi featuring fresh, creative, and seasonal ingredients. In this work shop we will give ‘ugly’ or imperfect vegetables their chance to shine. You’ll learn all about the process of fermentation and the importance it has on our gut and overall health. Working together we’ll create the perfect kimchi and each take home a delicious jar to enjoy later.
